On discernment, the power of prayer for our kids, what secure love looks like, and how I’m facing the impending changes to come.

Yeah, this is a big one.

I told you I’d be changed this summer.

And we’re not even halfway through.

We just arrived home after a 3 week family sabbatical. More than a vacation, it was intentional time away from home, work, friends, technology, sports, schedules. And we emerged a different family than we entered in.

Let me take you into some things that have transpired these past few weeks, in this season of reset…in our family, in our marriage, in my own heart and mind.

And in doing so, I’ll touch upon a few things:

  1. How and why we are discerning some major changes in our family

  2. The power of prayer for our children in reveling things about them, and how we can’t be good parents without praying for our kids

  3. The realization I had about what secure married love looks like in the hard moments - and what it has to do with the battle for the soul of the family

  4. Why we invest in memories and how I’m facing more impending loss and changes

That’s a lot I know. I want to catch you up to speed a bit while also attempting to look beyond the circumstances into what God tries to reveal through everyday life. Because when you look behind the curtain, you often see a different world. And it’s all beautiful, confusing, difficult, glorious, and messy. Even after all this time, after all I’ve been through and encountered (with God), I’m still learning. I’m discovering how to really live a holy life, trying to make it all the best I can, while accepting my human limits - and accepting the fact that I won’t fully “get there” until I see God face to face.

Alex and my main desires are to have a solid, thriving marriage, kids who carry their Catholic faith and strong virtue into secure vocations, be there for the people around us, and have a peaceful life.

This has looked different in different seasons we’ve been in and it has become the driving force for everything I’m writing about today.

With that, let’s rewind a bit, step into the sandy shores of Kauai, and peer into the circumstances of the everyday that God uses to communicate His truths - those whispers that lead us closer to Him, to Heaven, and to a peaceful and fulfilling life.
